The access-right authority table is a controlled vocabulary listing the access rights or restrictions to resources. It is designed for but not limited to DCAT descriptions of datasets. This authority table is maintained by the Publications Office of the European Union on the EU Vocabularies website. 

This table provides a list of options for the use of accessibility criteria for person with disabilities in the technical specifications within the domain of public procurement.

The European Learning Model (ELM) list of Accreditation decisions provides information about the outcome of an accreditation process. It is maintained by DG EMPL and published by the Publications Office of the European Union on the EU Vocabularies website. 

The European Learning Model (ELM) list of Accreditation statuses allows the determination of whether the accreditation status of an institution / programme is settled, pending review, obsolete, etc. It is maintained by DG EMPL and published by the Publications Office of the European Union on the EU Vocabularies website. 

The European Learning Model (ELM) list of Accreditation types allows learning opportunity providers and credential issuers to describe, in a standardised way, the quality assurance of their institution or programme, and whether or not it legally grants a license to operate. It is maintained by DG EMPL and published by the Publications Office of the European Union on the EU Vocabularies website. 

The Activity Coding List is used in the Harmonised European Time Use Surveys (HETUS) to quantify how much time people spend on various activities, including paid work, household chores and family care, personal care, voluntary work, social life, travel and leisure. It is based on international practices and previous classifications of daily activities used in Europe. The initial coding system and index were tested and revised on the basis of time use pilot surveys in 18 countries. The final system was completed in 2000 and revised in 2008 and in 2018. The European activity coding list allows several groupings of activities depending on the purpose of the analysis.

The Address type authority table (AT) is a controlled vocabulary that provides the address types as used in the EU Whoiswho application. The AT gives the authority code and the English label for each concept. The Address type AT is maintained by the Publications Office of the European Union on the EU Vocabularies website. 

Administrative territorial unit (ATU) authority table is a controlled vocabulary that lists concepts associated with various administrative territorial units of current and past EU Member States.

An administrative territorial unit is a portion of a country or other region delineated for the purpose of administration. Due to the large volume of lowest level administrative units (local authority, municipality) in certain countries, these units have not yet been fully implemented. ATU is structured by countries and contains labels in the official language(s) of the concerned country and in English.

The classification of each territorial unit can be found in the related Administrative territorial unit type authority table. 

ATU is updated based on the stakeholders' needs.

Contributions to it are accepted following a review made by EU Vocabularies team of the Publications Office of the EU.

ATU is maintained by the Publications Office of the European Union and disseminated on the EU Vocabularies website.

The Administrative territorial unit type authority table (AT) is a controlled vocabulary which provides the various types of administrative territorial units within the Member States of the European Union. It is linked to the Administrative territorial unit table that provides the list of the subdivisions per country. 

The categorization of these types is based on national official information and the Committee of the Regions of the European Union has provided the translations in all official languages of the European Union. The ISO 3166-2 standard has also been used. Where there are differences in the territorial unit types and the ISO code, the legal basis of the country concerned has taken precedence. 

An administrative unit is defined for the purpose of administration with a certain degree of autonomy and is country-specific. The administrative unit refers to public administration for which the administrative law is applicable.

The administrative territorial unit types must not be confused with the Nomenclature of Territorial Units for Statistics (NUTS). The NUTS is delineated according to the population living in the territorial unit and is used in an economical/statistical environment. The administrative territorial unit types must not be confused with the jurisdiction territories designed for the competence area of Courts. In certain countries, the subdivisions may be the same for the administrative, economical, statistical and jurisdiction units.

This AT is maintained by the Publications Office of the European Union on the EU Vocabularies website. 

In the context of the Interinstitutional Metadata and Formats Committee (IMFC) the Institutions have decided to use XML as structured, machine-readable format for implementation and the Akoma Ntoso XML schema for the mark-up of the content of the legislative documents that are managed and exchanged by the Institutions in the scope of the legislative process.

This table provides a list of the options pertinent to be chosen for a matter concerning the applicability of predefined fields. It is designed for but not restricted to the context of public procurement.

The European Learning Model (ELM) list of Assessment types describes potential means to assess a person's learning achievements. It is maintained by DG EMPL and published by the Publications Office of the European Union on the EU Vocabularies website. 

This classification is intended for organising knowledge organisation system (KOS) assets published by the Publications Office of the European Union ranging from controlled lists, terminologies, thesauri, models, markup schemas, ontologies and authoritative assets and other kinds of resources. The assets types are classified by their main function, being classification, sematic or data modelling, handling authoritative data, e.g.The Asset classification authority table is maintained by the Publications Office of the EU on the EU Vocabularies website.

The European Learning Model (ELM) list of Attachment types consists of a list of unstructured document types which can be appended to a report. It is maintained by DG EMPL and published by the Publications Office of the European Union on the EU Vocabularies website. 

This table provides the list of rules to be taken into account for the award decisions within the in public procurement procedures. The initial values are those foreseen in the public procurement directives of 2014 (Directives 2014/23/EU, 2014/24/EU and 2014/25/EU).

The translations provided are those used in the Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2015/1986 establishing standard forms for the publication of notices in the field of public procurement.

The Binding type authority table is a controlled vocabulary listing methods used to bind a published or unpublished document. The Binding type authority table is maintained by the Publications Office of the European Union and disseminated on the EU Vocabularies website.

The Publications Office has selected BITS (Book Interchange Tag Suite) as an XML mark-up model suitable for the production of general publications.

BITS provides a common XML format in which publishers and archives can exchange book content, including book parts such as chapters. It provides a set of XML DTD and schema that define elements and attributes to describe textual and graphical contents.

In order to facilitate the reusability, BITS makes a tag set adequate for supporting interchange, archiving, format-conversion and publishing. More details can be found here

The Publications Office is preparing the use of the following version of BITS schema customised to meet the requirements of general publications.

The Business event is a controlled vocabulary classifying public services related to the business events. It is supported by Core public service vocabulary application profile (CPSV-AP) and should help european public administrations to align their catalogue of services.

This table provides a list of the the type of procuring authorities within the domain of public procurement according to legislation.

The Carrier authority table is a controlled vocabulary listing values representing the medium on which content is stored. The Carrier authority table is maintained by the Publications Office of the European Union and disseminated on the EU Vocabularies website.

The Case report authority table (AT) is a controlled vocabulary providing the different names of the case law reports of the Court of Justice of the European Union. The Case report AT is used in an IMMC extension for which only one institution is the source (Court of Justice). It indicates the authority code and start-use date of each concept. The Case report AT is updated in coordination with the Court of Justice and maintained by the Publications Office of the European Union on the EU Vocabularies website. 

The Case status authority table (AT) is a controlled vocabulary providing the different statuses used for a case at the Court of Justice of the European Union. The Case status AT is used in an IMMC extension for which only one institution is the source (Court of Justice). It gives the authority code and start-use date of each concept. Case status value indicates the status of the case i.e. case pending (including on-going cases, stayed cases and cases in the process of being discontinued or withdrawn); case closed.

The Case status AT is updated in coordination with the Court of Justice  and maintained by the Publications Office of the European Union on the EU Vocabularies website. 

This table provides the codes and values used in case of justification of correction applied to a notice within the context of public procurement.

The European Learning Model (ELM) list of Claim types includes the types of claims which may be made about a person in the context of a learning credential. It is maintained by DG EMPL and published by the Publications Office of the European Union on the EU Vocabularies website. 

A statistical classification has a structure which is composed of one or several classification levels. A classification level is often characterised by a generic name for the classification items that it regroups. For instance, the NACE uses the terms "sections", "divisions", "groups" and "classes"; the Combined Nomenclature (CN) has sections, chapters, headings, HS subheadings and CN subheadings; the NUTS includes 4 levels: Level 0 (Country), level 1 (NUTS 1), level 2 (NUTS 2) and level 3 (NUTS 3). The bottom level is always the most detailed level i.e., has the most precise information (detailed values) for the variable classifying the statistical unit.

The Classification of Business Functions (CBF 1.0) is intended for use in the production of business statistics, building on experiences from several recent surveys in Europe, Canada, the United States, and India. The primary use of business function statistics is to examine the details of international sourcing. However, it could also be applied to domestic sourcing. The CBF is applicable for both developed and developing countries to measure the impact of both domestic and international sourcing in their national economies.

CBF is created and maintained by Eurostat and published by the Publications Office of the European Union on the EU Vocabularies website.

The Classification of institutional sectors (S) is one of the classifications used in the European System of Accounts (hereinafter referred to as `the ESA 2010' or `the ESA'), an internationally compatible accounting framework for a systematic and detailed description of a total economy (that is, a region, country or group of countries), its components and its relations with other total economies.

ESA 2010 S is maintained by Eurostat and published by the Publications Office of the European Union on the EU Vocabularies website.

CReMA classifies resource management activities into seven main categories, and is complemented by the Classification of Environmental Protection Activities (CEPA) that classifies activities aimed at preventing, reducing and eliminating pollution or any other environmental degradation.

The Combined Nomenclature 2022 (CN 2022) is the goods classification used within the European Union for the purposes of foreign trade statistics. It is also used by Directorate General "Taxation and Customs Union" of the European Commission for customs duty purposes. The Combined Nomenclature, 2024, is maintained by Eurostat and disseminated by the Publications Office of the European Union on the EU Vocabularies website.

The Common Data Model (CDM) is the formal description of the EU institution's official documents, legislative decision-making process, and its related publications.

More specifically, the CDM describes documents in the legal domain (e.g., the Official Journal, case law, consolidated legislation, preparatory acts, etc.), general publications (e.g., reports, periodical serials, books, brochures, etc.), the different entities related to their creation (e.g., the agent who wrote the document, the procedure and event of which it is the result, etc.), and their relations.

The model is based on the FRBR methodology which is well suited to describe multilingual and multiformat publications.

The CDM is an ontology described in Web Ontology Language (OWL) and it governs the respective document metadata instances in the Common Repository (Cellar). Its documentation can be obtained by dereferencing the ontology URI http://publications.europa.eu/ontology/cdm.

This model is continually refined in collaboration with the business units to guarantee its quality with regards to the institutions’ needs for the structure of their metadata.

To support an effective Single Market, the Commission encourages suppliers and contracting authorities/entities to adopt best practice and use electronic communication and information technology to provide all the relevant information, so as to ensure best value for money in public procurement.

To make public procurement more transparent and efficient, in 1993 the Commission drafted the Common Procurement Vocabulary (CPV).

To support an effective Single Market, the Commission encourages suppliers and contracting authorities/entities to adopt best practice and use electronic communication and information technology to provide all the relevant information, so as to ensure best value for money in public procurement.

The Concept status authority table is an internal controlled vocabulary used at the Publications Office. It provides the various statuses used in a harmonised way amongst the authority tables. Concepts with current, deprecated and retired statuses are published while the remaining statuses are related to the internal workflow. The Concept status authority table is maintained by the Publications Office of the European Union on the EU Vocabularies website. 

The Confidentiality level authority table is a controlled vocabulary used to define the information confidentiality levels according to the European Commission Security Notice ‘Information assessment and classification’, C(2019) 1903 final, 5.3.2019.

The Confidentiality level authority table is updated based on the stakeholders’ needs.

The continent authority table is a controlled vocabulary providing a list of continents. This table is an internal table at the Publications Office of the European Union derived from the country authority table.

This table provides a framework to represent data relating to procurement.

This table provides a list of different types of subjects and goods that  can be acquired by means of a public contract such as works, supplies and services by one or more contracting authorities from economic operators.

The Corporate body authority table is a controlled vocabulary which provides the varying names of EU corporate bodies for a given time span. Some other – international and national – corporate bodies are also included as far as they are used in the various systems in the Publications Office. The traceability of the chronological modifications is ensured when possible.

The corporate-body-classification authority table is a controlled vocabulary providing types of corporate bodies. This authority table is maintained by the Publications Office of the European Union in the Metadata Registry (EU Vocabularies website). 

‘Countries and territories’ is a controlled vocabulary that lists concepts associated with names of countries and territories. It is a corporate reference data asset covered by the Corporate Reference Data Management policy of the European Commission.

The corporate list provides codes and names of geospatial and geopolitical entities in all official EU languages and is the result of a combination of multiple relevant standards, created to serve the requirements and use cases of the EU institutions services. Its main scope is to support documentary metadata activities. 

The codes of the concepts included are correlated with the ISO 3166 international standard. The authority code relies where possible on the ISO 3166-1 alpha-3 code. Additional user-assigned alpha-3 codes have been used to cover entities that are not included in the ISO 3166-1 standard. 

The corporate list contains mappings with the ISO 3166-1 two-letter codes, the Interinstitutional Style Guide codes and with other internal and external identifiers including ISO 3166-1 numeric, ISO 3166-3, UNSD M49, UNSD Geoscheme, IBAN, TIR, IANA domain.

For the names of countries and territories, the corporate list synchronises with the Interinstitutional Style Guide (ISG, Section 7.1 and Annexes A5 and A6) and with the IATE terminology database.

Membership and classification properties provide possibilities to group concepts, e.g., UN, EU, EEA, EFTA, Schengen area, Euro area, NATO, OECD, UCPM, ENP-EAST, ENP-SOUTH, EU candidate countries and potential candidates.

The corporate list ‘Countries and territories’ is maintained by the Publications Office of the European Union and disseminated on the EU Vocabularies website. Regular updates are foreseen based on its stakeholders’ needs.

The Court type authority table (AT) is a controlled vocabulary providing the classification of EU courts as well as the general three-level classification of national courts. It indicates the authority code and start-use date of each concept and gives labels in all official EU languages. The list of Credential types describes types of European Digital Credentials for Learning, each of which is associated with an application profile of the European Learning Model (ELM). The list of Credential types is maintained by DG EMPL and published by the Publications Office of the European Union on the EU Vocabularies website. 

This table provides criteria used for public procurement procedures.

The Currency authority table is a controlled vocabulary that lists concepts associated with currencies and currency subunits.

The concepts included are correlated with the ISO 4217 international standard.

The type of contract of the procurement procedure within the scope of Clean Vehicles Directive 2009/33/EC.

The Data service type authority table is a controlled vocabulary providing possible types of data services.It has been developed specifically for the Linked Data Solutions (LDS) project. 

The Data service type authority table is updated based on the stakeholders' needs.

The Data theme authority table is a controlled vocabulary that lists concepts associated with themes used for dataset classification.

Its main scope is to support activities associated with the Data Catalog Vocabulary application profile (DCAT-AP). 

The concepts have been defined by the working group in charge of the revision of the DCAT-AP.

The Dataset status authority table is a controlled vocabulary providing possible statuses for datasets. It has been developed specifically for the official portal for European data ‘data.europa.eu’. This authority table is maintained by the Publications Office of the European Union on the EU Vocabularies website. 

The Dataset type authority table is a controlled vocabulary that lists concepts associated with types of datasets.

Dating from 1978 when catalogues of the Central Library of the Commission of the European Communities (now the European Union) were computerised, ECLAS is a thesaurus created by the Central Library of the Commission of the European Communities for indexing the publications and documents acquired by the Central Library of the Commission. ECLAS was based on the Macrothesaurus of OECD and complemented by the ILO thesaurus. After creation of EUROVOC in 1984, convergence started in order to bring ECLAS in line with EUROVOC, but it was never complete. ECOICOP (European Classification of Individual Consumption according to Purpose) is based on COICOP (Classification of Individual Consumption according to Purpose), a reference classification published by the United Nations Statistics Division, which is used in National accounts, Household Budget surveys (HBS), Price Statistics (HICP) and Purchasing Power Parities (PPP). The European List of Wastes (LoW) is the waste classification in the EU for administrative purposes, i.e. for permitting and supervision in the field of waste generation and management. The LoW defines 842 waste types which are structured into 20 chapters and 111 sub-chapters, mainly according to the source of the waste (i.e. the economic sector or process of origin). Each waste type is characterised by a six-digit code. Any waste marked with an asterisk (*) in the list of wastes shall be considered as hazardous waste pursuant to Directive 2008/98/EC. Countries which use the European List of Waste (LoW) for collecting data on waste generation and treatment can use the table of equivalence that has been established between the LoW and the EWC in order to convert their statistics in EWC categories. Event is part of the Core Metadata used in the exchange between the institutions involved in the legal decision making process and the Publications Office of the European Union. The Event status authority table (AT) is a controlled vocabulary that describes the status of an event in an interinstutional procedure or an internal procedure of an institution allowing therefore to distinguish aspects of the same (legal) event in time: usually events are post-factum (NORMAL), but they can be PROJECTED to happen in the future or - if that projection was revoked by the projecting stakeholder - CANCELLED. The Formation of the Court authority table (AT) is a controlled vocabulary showing the composition of the courts of the European Union according to the case they are seized with (Articles 251, 254 and 257 of the Treaty on Functioning of the European Union (TFEU). The Interinstitutional procedure authority table (AT) is a controlled vocabulary listing the different procedures used in the context of data exchange between the institutions involved in the legal decision-making process and the Publications Office of the European Union. It provides an authority code, the start-use date of the concept and labels in all official EU languages. The Interinstitutional procedure authority table is under governance of the Interinstitutional Metadata Maintenance Committee (IMMC) and maintained by the Publications Office of the European Union on the EU Vocabularies website.

This authority table lists the different internal procedures of the institutions involved in the legislative process.

The Eurostat classification ICST-COM which is harmonised with the UNCTAD International Classification of Ship Types, identifies all the ship types. ISO 639-2/B (B = bibliographic) is used for bibliographic purpose (alpha-3),

ISO 639-2/T (T = terminology) is used for technical purpose (alpha-3),

The Legislative priority authority table (AT) is a controlled vocabulary that lists legislative priorities that are agreed between the European Parliament, the Council and the Commission in the joint declarations on legislative priorities. This AT is a simple code list with non-human readable codes that provides the labels of all legislative priorities in 24 languages. It was created for the needs of the Joint Legislative Portal (JLP). Land Use / Cover Area Frame Survey 2022 (LUCAS 2022) consist of an area frame sampling survey to collect harmonized data on land cover/use and agro-environmental parameter; the survey covers all Member States. It is mainly used for GBAORD (Government budget appropriations or outlays on R&D) and R&D statistics at international and national level. ESCO is the European multilingual classification of occupations, skills, competences and qualifications. This table provides the function groups and grades of the staff employed by the European institutions, bodies or agencies. 

Officials and temporary agents are classed into function groups according to the nature of their duties: administrator (AD), assistant (AST), Secretary and clerk (AST/SC). 

- The AD function group comprises 12 grades corresponding to management, planning and research, scientific and linguistic functions;

- The AST function group comprises 11 grades which correspond to executive and technical functions;

- The AST/SC function group, comprises 6 grades which correspond to secretarial and clerical functions.

The SDMX Glossary is an SDMX guideline containing concepts and related definitions that are useful for building and understanding data and metadata exchange arrangements based on the SDMX (Statistical Data and Metadata eXchange) ISO 17369 standard. It is recommended as a single entry point to a common SDMX terminology to be used in order to facilitate communication and understanding of the standard. In short, the overall message of the glossary is the following: if a term is used, then its precise meaning should correspond to the SDMX Glossary definition, and any reference to a particular phenomenon described in the SDMX Glossary should use the appropriate term.

Standard goods classification for transport statistics 2007 (NST 2007) is a statistical nomenclature for the goods transported by four modes of transport: road, rail, inland waterways and sea, that takes account of the economic activity from which the goods originate. This means that each of its items is strongly interrelated with an item of the European Union Classification of Products by Activity (CPA) and statistical classification of economic activities (NACE).

The Subdivision content authority table (AT) is a controlled vocabulary listing concepts that indicate specific content of text divisions. It was created by the Publications Office (OP) for the development of AKN4EU specifications, which concern documents exchanged between the EU Institutions involved in the legal decision making process and sent to OP for publication. It provides the name, authority code, start-use date and definition of each concept (English only). The European Waste Classification is a mainly substance-oriented classification of waste for statistical purposes, which distinguishes hazardous and non-hazardous waste. It is aggregated into 51 mainly substance orientated waste categories that provides criteria for the assessment and classification of hazardous waste and defines different types of waste by a six-digit code for the waste and the respective two-digit and four-digit chapter headings. The two digit chapter headings are partly oriented towards the origin of the waste. The EWC stat is orientated purely to material disaggregation into parts of this material.

For certain goods, a supplementary quantity is provided in addition to the net mass. This quantity is expressed in a unit, which provides useful information. The 17 interlinked Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and their related 169 targets, which are at the heart of the UN's 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, provide a new policy framework worldwide towards ending all forms of poverty, fighting inequalities and tackling climate (https://sdgs.un.org/goals). The European Learning Model (ELM) list of Target groups describes learner groups that a learning opportunity, and corresponding credential, is tailored and/or best suited for. The territorial typologies that have been developed by Eurostat can be split into three principal groups, covering grid-based typologies, local typologies based on LAUs (local administrative units) and regional typologies based on NUTS level 3 (the classification of territorial units for statistics).

• Grid typologies: Eurostat collects population statistics based on 1 km² grid cells. These very detailed statistics are used to establish various cluster types — namely, urban centres, urban clusters and rural grid cells.
• Local typologies: based on statistics for local administrative units (LAUs) which generally comprise municipalities or communes across the EU. Statistics for LAUs may be used to establish local typologies including the degree of urbanisation (cities; towns and suburbs; rural areas); functional urban areas (cities and their surrounding commuting zones); coastal areas (coastal and non-coastal areas).
• Regional typologies: statistics that are grouped according to the classification of territorial units for statistics (NUTS); they provide information at a relatively aggregated level of detail, with data presented for NUTS level 1, level 2 and level 3 regions respectively, detailing larger to smaller territorial units. Only the most detailed statistics at NUTS level 3 are used as building blocks to establish the urban-rural typology (predominantly urban regions, intermediate regions and predominantly rural regions), the metropolitan typology (metropolitan and non-metropolitan regions), the coastal typology (coastal and non-coastal regions), each of which has a legislative basis.
