How to contribute

The EU Vocabularies team welcomes suggestions to improve the controlled vocabularies and reference data published by the Publications Office of the European Union on EU Vocabularies .

You can:

  • propose a new concept,
  • suggest a correction or update to an existing one.

If you are browsing EU Vocabularies, the easiest way to send us your suggestions directly is to use the CONTRIBUTE button in the top right-hand corner (shown below).

You may write in any of the EU’s 24 official languages. For faster processing, we recommend English, French or German.

Propose a new concept Propose a new concept via email

If you think a vocabulary is missing a concept, please send us the following information:

  • The dataset concerned
  • Preferred label (the main unique term representing the concept by linguistic means)
  • Alternative labels (if any: including synonyms, acronyms, abbreviations, spelling variants and other forms that improve retrieval)
  • Definition, preferably with an authoritative source
  • Any additional information (e.g. relations to existing concepts, further sources)
  • Your affiliation and the purpose of the proposal

Suggest a correction or update Suggest a modification via email

If you notice an error or want to suggest a modification of an existing concept, please include:

  • The URL or URI of the concept
  • A clear description of the proposed change
  • The language concerned (if relevant)
  • Your affiliation and the reason for the request

What happens next?

All proposals are reviewed by the EU Vocabularies team. We will assess your request and inform you of the next steps. Requests received and accepted before the code freezes for our quarterly releases can be expected to be published according to our publication schedule.
